If you walk down the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, you will miss this house completely.
There is no sign. There is no tasting room. There is just an unassuming door that leads to a mile-long labyrinth of 19th-century chalk cellars. This was the domain of the late Christian Coquillette, a legend who ran Saint-Chamant for 70 years until his passing in 2020.
Christian was famous for one thing: patience. While big brands rush bottles to market, he believed in "extreme aging." He kept hundreds of thousands of bottles sur lie for decades, only disgorging them when a specific order came in.
The NV Brut Rosé is a structural anomaly. While most Champagne Rosé is dominated by Pinot Noir, this is 92% Grand Cru Chardonnay from Chouilly. It is essentially a top-tier Blanc de Blancs with a "kiss" of old-vine Pinot Meunier for color. It offers the chalky, electric tension of the Côte des Blancs with a rare, vinous depth that only extended cellar aging can provide.
