Tasting notes

Aroma

An explosive nose of crushed violet flowers, red plum, cherry cola, and a distinct "feral" wildness that is pure Roagna.

Palate

Silky yet structured. The texture is "light on its feet" but packed with savory grip. Flavors of bright red berry and licorice linger on a finish that is saline and endless.

Product Description

Sourced entirely from the legendary Pajé and Carso vineyards in Barbaresco

Luca Roagna treats this Dolcetto like a $200 Barbaresco.

While most producers treat Dolcetto as a simple cash cow, Roagna treats this bottle like a First Growth. Sourced exclusively from his top "Grand Cru" holdings in Barbaresco (the famous Pajé and Carso vineyards), this wine comes from ancient 50+ year-old vines that sit in white calcareous soil, giving the wine a distinct, vibrating minerality usually found only in top Nebbiolo.

The 2023 vintage is a stunning example of this philosophy. Luca utilizes a "submerged cap" fermentation for months—a radical technique for Dolcetto that infuses the wine with incredible stability and silkiness without extracting harsh bitterness. The result is an intellectual masterpiece: a wine that marries the juicy, violet-scented fruit of the varietal with the serious, savory structure of a Barbaresco. It is unfiltered, unfined, and honestly, better than most producers' top wines.
