2023 Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Cincuenta y Cinco 55
Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of the founder of Sassicaia, did not set out to make Pinot Noir in Tuscany. In Detail
An iconic 97-point allocation from 1955 ungrafted Patagonian vines
Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of the founder of Sassicaia, did not set out to make Pinot Noir in Tuscany. Instead, his search for terroir capable of translating Pinot Noir's purest expression led him to the arid, wind-swept desert of Argentina's Río Negro Valley in Patagonia. There, he discovered a parcel of ungrafted Pinot Noir vines planted in 1955, resting on a riverbed sea of smooth pebbles and limestone-rich clay.
'Cincuenta y Cinco' takes its name from those 1955 plantings. The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, benefiting from intense Patagonian sunlight, cool desert nights, and pure Andean meltwater.
In the cellar, Incisa della Rocchetta ferments 100 percent whole clusters at low temperatures using ambient yeasts to preserve pure floral lift and structural tension. Aging takes place equally in concrete tanks and older French oak barrels for eleven months before bottling unfined and unfiltered. The 2023 vintage stands as a masterclass in tension and finesse—delivering ethereal fruit depth, racy citrus acidity, and a distinct mineral drive that rivals the finest bottles in the world.
