Tasting notes

Aroma

A wild, savory nose of crushed cranberry, forest floor, and black tea. There is a distinct note of sea spray and kelp that speaks directly to the vineyard's proximity to the ocean.

Palate

Electric and crunchy. The palate is light on its feet but packed with tension. Flavors of tart cherry, blood orange, and dried herbs dominate, supported by fine, powdery tannins from the stems. It finishes with a saline kick that makes it impossible to put down.

Product Description

The cult Pinot Noir from the edge of the continent

After building a legacy with Sandhi and Domaine de la Côte, legendary sommelier-turned-winemaker Rajat Parr moved to a remote hillside in Cambria, just miles from the Pacific Ocean. This is Phelan Farm. It is not just a vineyard; it is a closed-loop ecosystem. Parr farms this site with zero chemicals, using sprays made from nettles, honey, and willow bark foraged on the property.

The 2022 Pinot Noir is the distinct voice of the extreme SLO Coast. The cold, foggy climate allows the grapes to ripen slowly, developing intense savory complexity without high sugar. Parr utilizes 100% whole-cluster fermentation, which gives the wine a spinal cord of spice and grip. This is not the fruit-forward Pinot of the Russian River; this is wild, saline, and intellectual. It captures the smell of the coastal scrub and the cold ocean air in a way few California wines ever have.
