Rajat Parr’s "Savoie" Blend from the California Coast
2022 Phelan Farm Autrement SLO Coast
"Autrement" is French for "Otherwise." This is Rajat Parr doing things differently. While Phelan Farm is famous for its Pinot Noir, Autrement is the insider's favorite. It is Parr’s homage to the red wines of the French Alps (Savoie and Jura)—wines that are light in color but massive in savory, peppery complexity. Tasting notes
Aroma
ild and lifted. It explodes with scents of crushed white pepper, sour cherry, and pine forest. The Mondeuse adds a distinct note of violet and graphite that sets it apart from a standard Pinot Noir.
Palate
Juicy, crunchy, and alive. The texture is reminiscent of "freshly cracked grapes." It offers flavors of tart cranberry, pomegranate, and dried herbs, supported by a spine of chalky tannins. It is light on its feet (only 12.5% alcohol) but possesses a savory depth that keeps you coming back to the glass

Gamay, Mondeuse, and Pinot Noir. The cult bottle of the vintage

The 2022 vintage is a stunning example of this "alpine" style. Farmed with zero chemicals and sprayed only with teas made from nettles, kelp, and willow bark, the vines produced fruit of shocking vibrancy. The grapes were fermented 100% whole-cluster and aged in neutral oak. The result is not a "fruit bomb"—it is a wine of tension, crunch, and electric energy. It is arguably the most distinct and "digestible" wine in the entire Phelan Farm lineup.
