In Detail
Bone-dry, low-ABV Austrian precision from steep Danube slopes
If you’ve ever sat along the Danube River watching the sun hit the terraced stone slopes of the Wachau, you know this region produces some of the most thrilling, food-friendly white wines on planet Earth. While neighboring Riesling gets plenty of spotlight, Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s true national treasure—and the Fischer family knows exactly how to make it sing.
Operating out of Rossatz on the Danube's cooler southern bank, Joe Fischer crafts Grüner with intense focus and zero pretense. In the Wachau's strict historic hierarchy, "Federspiel" represents the goldilocks zone: medium-bodied, bone-dry, and bottled at 12.5% alcohol. It isn't designed for heavy oak or big dairy tones, but for pure, thirst-quenching precision.
The 2022 vintage hits every high note. Pouring a shimmering pale straw, it explodes with vibrant green apple, white peach, snap peas, and that iconic, unmistakably Austrian crack of white pepper. On the palate, a wave of zesty lime and crushed stone minerality is propelled by lip-smacking acidity that practically begs for the dinner table.
Whether you're pairing it with spicy Thai curry, raw oysters, or simply pouring a cold glass on a hot afternoon, this is benchmark Wachau Grüner at an unbelievable price point. We secured a tight allocation of this stunning 2022 release for WineKey. Grab a few bottles before our inventory vanishes.
