Burgundy Royalty Conquers the Jura

2022 Domaine du Pelican Savagnin Ouille Grand Curoulet Arbois

A Burgundy legend bought the exact patch of ground where Arbois wine was born, and the result is one of the most thrilling whites coming out of France right now. That legend is Guillaume d'Angerville. In Detail

The vibrant, laser-focused 2022 Pelican Grand Curoulet

A Burgundy legend bought the exact patch of ground where Arbois wine was born, and the result is one of the most thrilling whites coming out of France right now. That legend is Guillaume d'Angerville. After tasting a blind Jura wine that he swore was a Premier Cru Burgundy, he became so obsessed with the region's potential that he launched Domaine du Pélican from scratch.

He zeroed in on Grand Curoulet, widely considered the oldest vineyard in Arbois. It is planted entirely to Savagnin, the region's rare signature grape. But instead of making it in the nutty, oxidized style the Jura is infamous for, d'Angerville crafts this wine to be relentlessly fresh and clean. A night on the grape skins builds texture, while strict biodynamic farming and old oak keep the terroir perfectly transparent.

The result is a razor-sharp, crystalline white wine. It delivers the precise, sophisticated texture and soaring acidity of a top-tier Puligny-Montrachet, entirely grounded by the rugged, wind-battered soils of the Jura. This is a Burgundy master's take on Arbois, produced in tiny quantities. It will not last.
