In Detail
A Grand Cru Chablis that marries mineral cut with Grand Cru scale in a rare 2021 expression.
At the northern edge of Chablis’ fabled Grand Cru slope lies Bougros, a vineyard prized for producing some of the most structured, powerful wines of the appellation. With its steep south-facing exposition and soils rich in Kimmeridgian limestone and clay, Bougros yields Chardonnay of depth and amplitude, yet always underpinned by the crystalline minerality that defines great Chablis.
In 2021, a vintage marked by devastating frost across Burgundy, yields were dramatically reduced. What remained was precious fruit of unusual concentration and finesse—a vintage that collectors are already noting for its rarity and classical profile. At Remoissenet Père et Fils, under the guiding hand of Claudie Jobard and Pierre-Antoine Rovani, that fruit was treated with utmost restraint: hand-harvested, native yeast fermentations, and aging in larger French oak barrels with a whisper of new wood. The result is a Grand Cru Chablis that glows with purity and balance rather than weight.
The wine opens with aromas of lemon oil, crushed oyster shell, and white flowers, layered with hints of green apple skin, flint, and almond. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet sculpted, carrying orchard fruit and citrus zest on a frame of chalky minerality. The finish is saline, long, and quietly powerful—an echo of its Grand Cru terroir.
For collectors, the 2021 Bougros offers the best of both worlds: immediate elegance and a backbone of acidity that promises graceful aging for 12–15 years. For modern drinkers, it is a wine of thrilling versatility—equally at home with butter-poached lobster or a simple plateau de fruits de mer. Scarce, pedigreed, and strikingly precise, it is a wine that speaks to both history and the present moment.
