Crystalline, dry Mosel Riesling bursting with citrus and slate minerality
Weingut Willi Schaefer is a legend of the Mosel, revered globally for producing Rieslings of unmatched purity, delicacy, and mineral precision. Operating from the village of Graach an der Mosel, Christoph and Andrea Schaefer farm four hectares of steep, blue slate vineyards, handcrafting microscopic quantities of wine that are among the most sought-after white wines in Germany.
The 2020 Graacher Riesling Trocken is sourced from steep hillside plots in Graach, where devonian blue slate soils impart a laser-sharp mineral drive. Fermented with native yeasts in traditional neutral oak foudres, this dry bottling captures the essence of Mosel slate without any weight or heavy oak interference, letting the pristine fruit and cool-climate acidity shine.
In the glass, it pours a brilliant pale straw with green highlights. Fragrant aromas of white peach, crisp green apple, lemon zest, and wet crushed stone lift effortlessly. The palate is dry, electric, and weightless, framing juicy citrus and orchard fruit with mouthwatering acidity and a long, saline-tinged finish.
This is a masterclass in dry Mosel Riesling from one of Germany's most celebrated artisanal estates. Serve chilled alongside pan-seared trout, Thai crab cakes, or fresh goat cheese.
