Tasting notes

Aroma

A vibrant burst of wild strawberry, cranberry, and dark plum, laced with complex notes of cacao, sassafras, star anise, and a hint of rock salt

Palate

Light on its feet but incredibly rich in texture. The Graciano delivers a pulse of crisp, mouth-watering acidity that lifts the deep cherry fruit, while smoothly refined tannins and a savory umami edge carry through a mouth-coating, deeply satisfying finish

In Detail

A 425-Case Cult Favorite at an Unbeatable Price

John Lockwood is one of the most exciting winemakers in California’s low-intervention scene. His Enfield Wine Co. produces tiny, highly sought-after parcels that are instantly snapped up by in-the-know sommeliers and hardcore collectors. Getting a crack at one of his bottlings is hard enough—finding one for under twenty bucks is virtually unheard of.

The 2020 "Pretty Horses" is Lockwood's love letter to Spain, infused with pure California sunshine. A vibrant blend of 60% Tempranillo, 27% Garnacha, and 13% Graciano, it is vinified with a gentle, almost Burgundian touch: native yeast fermentation, whole-cluster inclusion, and gentle foot-treading. The result is a stunningly energetic, lower-alcohol (12.9%) red that absolutely bursts with life. It is wildly versatile and dangerously drinkable.

With a microscopic total production of just 425 cases, most of this wine is already gone. Other retailers are holding their remaining stock hostage for up to $31 a bottle. We relentlessly negotiated to bring our final price down to an astonishing $19.99. At this price point, this isn't just a great buy—it's a case-load imperative. Load up before our tiny allocation vanishes completely.
