In Detail
Uncompromising biodynamic power from Riquewihr’s greatest vineyard
In the sun-drenched hills surrounding the medieval village of Riquewihr sits Schoenenbourg, a historic Grand Cru vineyard praised by poets and kings since the 16th century. Its distinctive soil—a rare mixture of gypsum-rich marl and sandstone—yields Riesling with a unique signature: remarkable aromatic concentration, rich texture, and an almost immortal aging potential.
When ninth-generation winemakers Amélie and Charles Sparr founded their estate, they set out to restore Alsace to its purest, biodynamic roots. Working meticulously under strict Demeter certification, they treat each plot as a living ecosystem. In their hands, the "Révélation" cuvée is not merely made; it is unveiled through patient, low-intervention winemaking and extended lees aging in neutral oak.
The 2020 Révélation Schoenenbourg is an absolute tour de force. It pours a deep yellow-gold, exploding with lime oil, dried papaya, white truffle, and a classic hint of warm petrol. On the palate, it delivers a commanding wave of ripe quince and candied citrus peel, seamlessly countered by electric, chiseled acidity and intense flinty depth.
Grand Cru Riesling of this caliber typically requires decades of cellar patience to acquire, but Sparr’s masterful biodynamic farming gives this bottle immediate accessibility while promising decades of future development. We secured a microscopic allocation straight from the estate. If you appreciate elite, world-class dry white wine, grab this masterpiece before our stock disappears.
