Tasting notes

Aroma

An explosive, aromatic profile that jumps from the glass. It opens with vibrant blackberry and elderberry fruit, completely intertwined with complex notes of graphite, smoky minerals, and candied flowers.

Palate

Rich, deeply concentrated, yet astonishingly light on its feet. The palate delivers sharply focused blue and black fruits, balanced by a wonderful coolness and a gentle, fine-sand tannic texture. It finishes with incredible precision, driven by a long, stony, and spicy mineral grip that demands your attention.

Product Description

The monumental 2019 debut from Thomas Farge

Scoring a massive 95 points from James Suckling and 94 points from Decanter, this is an intensely pure Northern Rhône Syrah sourced exclusively from the Farge family's absolute best, granite-laden parcel.

For years, Guy Farge was a quiet, steady force in the Northern Rhône. When he finally handed over the primary winemaking duties to his son, Thomas, they decided to commemorate the transition by isolating and bottling their most prized parcel of Saint-Joseph entirely on its own.

The result is the "Côte du Pouly" cuvée, a wine that immediately proves Thomas possesses a sophisticated, masterful touch. Instead of chasing heavy extraction, Thomas utilizes a pre-fermentation cold soak and extremely gentle maceration. He then ages the wine for 12 months in old 400-liter barrels and massive 3,000-liter foudres to ensure the pure, stony terroir is never masked by new wood. Critics are openly raving about its "weightless intensity and precision," signaling the arrival of the region's next great winemaking talent.
