While many producers in the Northern Rhône are relative newcomers, the Lionnet family roots in Cornas trace back to 1575. For nearly four and a half centuries, they have tended these granite slopes, passing down knowledge that simply cannot be taught in enology school.
Today, under the stewardship of Ludovic Izerable (who married into this historic lineage), the estate is producing the best wines in its long history. Yet, they haven't changed the recipe. They remain staunch defenders of the "old ways," fermenting with 100% whole clusters.
In the 2019 vintage, this adherence to tradition resulted in a massive 96-point score from Jeb Dunnuck. By keeping the stems, Lionnet preserved a "sapid" freshness and spicy nerve that cuts right through the richness of the solar 2019 vintage. This is a wine that carries the weight of history—it tastes ancient, savage, and profound.
