The "Greatest Discovery" in Bordeaux

2019 Domaine de Cambes Bordeaux

When Robert Parker first tasted François Mitjavile’s winemaking in the 1980s, he was floored, famously declaring the obscure property his "single greatest discovery" in Bordeaux. Parker eventually dubbed Mitjavile's flagship estate the "Petrus of Saint-Émilion"—a massive comparison to Pomerol's crown jewel that instantly catapulted the winemaker to international cult status and drove his bottle prices into the stratosphere. But while collectors fight over those triple-digit Grand Cru releases, …

Tasting notes

Aroma

A highly perfumed, wildly expressive nose of crushed wild berries, fresh mint, cigar wrapper, and deeply turned wet earth.

Palate

Seamless and utterly elegant. The palate flows with vibrant dark cherry and soft plum, backed by complex notes of truffle and fresh herbs. The tannins are powdery and refined, leading to a long, fruit-and-mineral finish.

In Detail

Mitjavile’s highly allocated, overachieving 2019 red

When Robert Parker first tasted François Mitjavile’s winemaking in the 1980s, he was floored, famously declaring the obscure property his "single greatest discovery" in Bordeaux. Parker eventually dubbed Mitjavile's flagship estate the "Petrus of Saint-Émilion"—a massive comparison to Pomerol's crown jewel that instantly catapulted the winemaker to international cult status and drove his bottle prices into the stratosphere.

But while collectors fight over those triple-digit Grand Cru releases, Mitjavile's true insider loophole is Domaine de Cambes. Grown on the Right Bank and bearing a humble "Bordeaux" appellation on the label, this wine is crafted with the exact same obsessive philosophy and late-harvest techniques as his flagship.

The 2019 vintage showcases the absolute elegance of Mitjavile's touch. Rather than relying on sheer weight, this release is incredibly silky, offering a high-toned structure and finesse that some critics compare to elite Pinot Noir. Because it flies completely under the mainstream radar, savvy buyers snatch up every bottle the second it drops. We managed to lock down a pristine cache of the 2019, but given the rabid cult following this estate commands, don't be surprised if its gone soon!
