2019 Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets

Vincent Bitouzet and Annie Prieur merged two historic winemaking families to create Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur. Today, under the masterful direction of their son François, the estate has become a benchmark for classic, terroir-transparent Burgundy. François's shift toward organic viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar has taken the wines to spectacular new heights, especially in a legendary vintage like 2019.

This specific release hails from "Les Caillerets," widely considered the greatest premier cru terroir in Volnay. Named after the ancient Gallic word for stones (caillou), this shallow, rocky, limestone-rich slope produces Pinot Noir of breathtaking elegance and profound, salty minerality. Utilizing indigenous yeasts, 100% destemming, and very little new oak, François captures the voice of the vineyard perfectly. The result is a wine that drinks with stunning, aromatic immediacy right now but possesses the architecture to gracefully evolve for the next two decades.
