2019 Chateau Simone Palette Blanc

Tucked into the tiny, ancient AOC of Palette just outside Aix-en-Provence, Château Simone operates as one of France's most singular winemaking treasures. While Provence is world-famous for simple pink quaffers, the Rougier family—stewards of this historic estate for over two centuries—crafts an immortal white wine that rivals the great bottlings of Hermitage Blanc and Puligny-Montrachet.

The distinction lies in the château’s extraordinary micro-terroir. Sourced from a steep, north-facing limestone amphitheater sheltered by ancient pine forests and cooled by the Arc River, these vines—some exceeding 110 years of age—escape the blistering southern heat. Clairette takes center stage here, supported by Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Ugni Blanc, and Muscat, yielding fruit of rare concentration and high-toned floral aromatics.

In the subterranean 16th-century cellar built by Grands Carmes monks, naturally chilled conditions inhibit malolactic fermentation.
