France's toughest wine critics once sat down and tasted twenty-seven straight vintages of this little Graves estate, all the way back to 1986. Nobody grants a three-decade retrospective to an ordinary wine, and nobody pours twenty-nine-year-old bottles of one that can't take the scrutiny. This château carries no classification. It carries a track record instead.
The vines crown the first gravel rise north of Langon, overlooking the Garonne valley, Cabernet Sauvignon rooted in deep gravel at the summit, Merlot on the sandy slope below. Julie Médeville has run the property since 2004, and her harvest stretches nearly two months because each variety gets picked only when she calls it ready.
The 2019 is the current chapter: 60% Cabernet, 40% Merlot, from a superb vintage, and it's drinking beautifully right now. Expect dark cherry and plum, tobacco leaf, cedar, and warm stone, with fine tannins and a long mineral finish.
Open one this weekend with a ribeye. Cellar the rest for a decade, knowing the record says it'll make the trip easily.
