Tasting notes
Aroma
A profound, savory nose of juicy dark cherry, tobacco leaf, worn leather, and baking spice, backed by the estate’s signature note of iron and earth.
Palate
Structure meets elegance. The palate is defined by the 2018 vintage's freshness—bright and exuberant, with a mid-weight feel that never becomes heavy. Flavors of black fruit and licorice are framed by polished tannins, leading to a finish that is savory, spicy, and long.
Red Wine Body Profile
Product Description
Sourced from the steep, rocky slopes of Conn Valley, this Baby Seavey delivers the structure and pedigree of the estate's $190 flagship for less than half the cost.
There is no glitzy tasting room on Highway 29. There are no tour buses. There is just a rugged, steep amphitheater in Conn Valley (tucked behind Howell Mountain) where the vines struggle in rocky soils to produce some of the most age-worthy wines in California.
For decades, Seavey has been the choice of purists—those who prefer the savory, graphite-laden structure of Bordeaux over the sweet "fruit bombs" of the valley floor.
The 2018 Caravina is technically their "second wine," but that classification is misleading. It is sourced from the exact same steep hillside estate as their flagship Cabernet. In the 99-point 2018 vintage—a year defined by a long, cool growing season—this wine achieved a level of polish and density that rivals most other wineries' top bottlings. It is dark, brooding, and serious, crafted with the consulting genius of Philippe Melka.
