Ferdinando Principiano is a modern-day reference point for pure, old-school Barolo. While many producers in the region spent the last few decades chasing high alcohol, dense extraction, and heavy machinery to appease critics, Ferdinando went the exact opposite direction. He abandoned chemicals, embraced manual farming (even using a scythe by hand), and returned to the traditional, low-intervention methods of his grandfather.
The 2018 Ravera di Monforte is a stunning example of his "less is more" philosophy. It completely defies the heavy, brooding stereotype of the region.
