In Detail
Elegant single-vineyard Gran Selezione bursting with red fruit
Perched on the rolling hills of Castellina in Chianti, Tenuta di Bibbiano has been owned by the Marrocchesi Marzi family since 1865. Surrounded by olive groves and ancient vineyards, Bibbiano is celebrated for crafting Chianti Classico of exceptional purity, tradition, and terroir-driven longevity.
'Montornello' is one of the estate’s prized single vineyards, situated on northeast-facing slopes rich in calcareous clay and pebbly gravel. This distinctive microclimate yields Sangiovese of remarkable structural depth and bright, vibrant acidity. Aged for two years in concrete tanks and French oak casks, this Gran Selezione expression captures the noble, unvarnished character of Castellina.
In the glass, the 2018 vintage displays a deep ruby hue. The nose opens with an expressive bouquet of sour black cherry, blackberry, fresh rosemary, dried tobacco, and iron ore. On the palate, it delivers medium-to-full-bodied density framed by firm, sandy structure and vibrant acidity, carrying dark fruit and blood orange accents through a long, savory finish.
This is an old-school, single-vineyard Tuscan red built for food and aging. Serve alongside bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragù, or aged pecorino cheese.
