Product Description

You'll have one of Italy's best stories in your cellar

We need to clear up the confusion immediately: This is NOT a Rosé. It is a red wine made from a "ghost" grape.

The name "Rosé delle Casasse" refers to the specific, historic clone of the grape: Nebbiolo Rosé. Decades ago, this biotype was prized in Piedmont for its intoxicating, spicy perfume. But during the industrialization of the 1970s, it was ripped out almost everywhere and replaced with clones that produced darker, heavier wines. The Nebbiolo Rosé clone was nearly driven to extinction.

Natale Simonetta of Cascina Baricchi is one of the few winemakers who refused to let it die. He has spent years cultivating this rare biotype in the Casasse vineyard in Neive.

The result is a wine that tastes like Barbaresco history. It is lighter in color than modern Nebbiolo (hence the name), but the aromatic intensity is off the charts. And in the legendary 5-Star 2016 vintage—widely considered the greatest Piedmont vintage of the modern era—this delicate clone found its perfect partner. The weather provided the structure and power to back up the clone’s ethereal aromatics. This is a cult wine in every sense: tiny production, historically significant, and utterly unique.
