Véronique Cochran was practicing biodynamics in Bordeaux long before it was fashionable. As the daughter of François Bouchet—the consultant who introduced biodynamics to icons like Domaine de la Romanée-Conti—she brought this uncompromising philosophy to Château Falfas in 1988. Sourced from the estate’s oldest vines and bottled in a collector-format magnum, her 2012 Le Chevalier is a masterclass in Right Bank elegance.
Situated in the Côtes de Bourg directly across the Gironde estuary from Margaux, the 400-year-old Château Falfas boasts prime clay-limestone terroir. Le Chevalier is the property’s flagship cuvée, crafted from vines averaging 75 years of age that naturally produce incredibly tiny, concentrated yields. Fermented on wild yeasts and aged for nearly two years in French oak, the wine combines old-world structure with the pure, energetic fruit expression that only meticulous biodynamic farming can achieve.
At over a decade old, this 2012 release is entering a prime drinking window, yet the protective magnum format ensures it will continue to evolve gracefully. In the glass, it pours a deep garnet, releasing mature aromas of black currant, crushed violet, dried cedar, and a savory hint of saddle leather. On the palate, the tannins have melted into a silky texture, framing flavors of dark plum, wild blackberry, and tobacco box that glide into a long, mineral-driven finish.
Finding aged, biodynamic Bordeaux from a historic estate in magnum format is incredibly rare. This bottle is built to command the center of your dinner table alongside a prime rib or roast lamb. Secure yours before our limited allocation disappears.
